Scandinavian Elegance Meets Family Living: A Victorian Home in Clapham

Writer: Charlotte BergmanCharlotte Bergman

Some projects are simply a joy from start to finish, and this was one of them. Designing two children's bedrooms and a luxurious yet inviting living room in a beautiful Victorian home in Clapham was an absolute dream. With full creative freedom, we infused the space with Swedish-inspired softness, natural textures, and a refined yet playful aesthetic, ensuring it felt both elegant and family-friendly.

The Living Room: Luxury Meets Simplicity

The heart of the home needed to be sophisticated yet welcoming, a space where clean lines, soft tones, and rich materials created a balanced, luxurious feel.

We chose a neutral palette of soft greys, warm whites, and muted taupes, enhanced by natural oak, linen, and wool for warmth. A bespoke Scandinavian-inspired sofa, paired with curved armchairs and a striking marble coffee table, set the foundation. Subtle gold and brass accents added a touch of elegance, while layered lighting and textured rugs completed the serene, inviting ambience.

Room One: A Soft and Dreamy Retreat

This calming yet playful space embraced sage green walls from Little Greene, giving it a timeless and soothing feel. To add depth, we used wall moulding from Decwood, perfectly complementing a Swedish animal wallpaper from Borås Tapeter—a charming nod to Scandinavian storytelling.

For function and fun, we created a cosy reading nook with a terracotta canopy, making it a magical escape. Smart storage solutions ensured practicality, keeping the space clutter-free while maintaining its whimsical elegance.

Room Two: A Playful and Cozy Hideaway

This room radiated warmth and charm with pink walls from Little Greene and an adorable bunny wallpaper from Borås Tapeter. To add a dreamy, cloud-like softness, we designed bespoke upholstered cloud panels on the walls, creating a cosy, cocooned feel.

Layered textiles, a snug reading corner, and delicate lighting enhanced the warm and inviting atmosphere, ensuring this room was as functional as it was beautiful—a space ready to grow with its young occupant.

The Final Result

This Victorian home now perfectly balances Scandinavian elegance, timeless luxury, and family-friendly comfort. The living room is a serene retreat, while the children’s rooms are both playful and sophisticated, designed to evolve with them over time.

A heartfelt thank you to my lovely clients for trusting me with their vision.
