A Cosy Transformation: Designing a Family Home in Balham

Writer: Charlotte BergmanCharlotte Bergman

When this growing family—a couple, their dog, and a baby on the way—approached us to refresh their townhouse in Balham, they wanted to create a warm, functional, and stylish home. The project included converting the loft into a nursery, revamping the home office, and adding thoughtful updates to the hallway, living room, and kitchen.

A Dreamy Nursery

Inspired by Scandinavian forests, we chose a beige, nature-inspired wallpaper from Borås Tapeter, reminiscent of my own childhood. We paired it with Little Greene’s soft wall colours, creating a calm, cosy space perfect for the new arrival.

A Fresh & Functional Home Office

To ensure a soothing yet productive atmosphere, we designed the office in soft beige and blue tones, promoting both focus and relaxation.

Sprucing Up the Main Spaces

The living room’s teal-coloured walls stayed, adding a rich contrast to the new FF&E updates in the kitchen and hallway. As wine enthusiasts, the family wanted custom wine storage, so we designed a built-in wine and storage wall, seamlessly blending function and style.

This project was all about creating a home that evolves with the family, balancing style, comfort, and practicality.
